The department of athletics at the Patrick Henry Community College received some help last week; all thanks go to some of the local golfers.
The college organized a golf fundraiser event at the Primland with the goal to support the student-athletes department that has more than 170 student-athletes. They are taking part in nine sports of different genre and are competing this year.
Brian Henderson the director of PHCC Athletic said, “Our motive is to see students doing well in the sport and get success, if athletics is the one way to help them, we are required to offer them that option.”
“Ultimately, the golf tournament of this semester is not just a big and a great day of golf with a number of supporters of golf. But, it was also a chance for our community partners take part in creating a space for our students to grow, achieve and excel” he added.
The competition turns to a tie of three-way between teams from Rogers Realty & Auction Co., Len Dillon Insurance and Bassett Furniture. The winner of the tournament was Len Dillon Insurance team, which was determined by the tournament playoff. The team of the winner was comprised of Len Dillon, Tim Stone, Greg Surratt and Terry Carter.
Second place was secured by the Rogers Realty & Auction Company. The team members were Keith Gunter, Gray Trotter, Tony Flippen and Taylor Coalson. And the third position was secured by Bassett Furniture, and the team included Eddie White, Chuck Tate, Mie Daniel and Bruce Cohenour.
However, according to Henderson, all the teams that participated in the tournament were considered as successful as all contributed to the success of the athletic program of PHCC. He said, the tournament of golf is an important part of the effort of athletics fundraising program.
