Luke Donald

A former world number one, Luke Donald is one of the most decorated golfers of the modern era with the Englishman becoming one of the very few players from his country to become the world number one and stay on top for over a year.

Having turned professional in 2001, Donald was allowed to make his debut in the US PGA Tour almost immediately courtesy of a sponsor exemption at the Reno – Tahoe Open. Although he missed the cut on his debut event, Donald managed to earn invitations into six more events during which, he made the cut in three. He quickly earned his Tour card after going through the qualifying school where he finished at T-23.

Donald made his debut as a member of the US PGA Tour at the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2002 and went on to win his first ever title as a professional with victory at the Southern Farm Bureau Classic, and with his success in the year, Luke Donald became only the 11th rookie in history to earn over a million dollars in prize money in his first season as a professional.

Donald is one of the most decorated players in golf at the moment, and he reached the zenith of his career in 2011 when he won the money list of the US PGA Tour and also secured the Race to Dubai of the European Tour, becoming the first player in the history of golf to secure the money prize list in both the major tours.

Luke Donald became the top ranked golfer in the world in May 2011, spending a cumulative total of 56 weeks at the top before being displaced permanently by Rory McIlroy and since then, Donald has dropped off somewhat, missing a place in the Ryder Cup squad of 2014.
